How is our responsibility work verified?
Finnish manufacturing and goldsmithing
Lumoava jewellery is designed and crafted in Kuopio with Finnish goldsmithing expertise. We have been awarded the Key Flag Symbol, which indicates that our products are made in Finland. Thanks to our own production, we know the materials, work stages and care requirements of our jewellery throughout its entire life cycle.
Responsible Jewellery Council
We are the first company in Finland to be accepted as an applicant for Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) certification. We develop our operations in line with internationally recognised responsibility standards across the entire supply chain, from material sourcing to manufacturing.
The EcoCompass environmental management system
Our operations are The EcoCompass certified. The certification requires us to identify our environmental impacts, set goals and commit to continuous development and monitoring.
Materials and long-lasting use
For us, responsibility means products that are designed to stand the test of time, both in terms of materials and design. Respect for materials is present in every stage of our work.
100% recycled sterling silver
The silver used in Lumoava silver jewellery is 100% recycled. Silver is a long-lasting precious metal that may naturally tarnish over time. Tarnishing does not weaken the metal, and the jewellery can be cleaned and polished again.
100% recycled gold
The gold used in Lumoava gold jewellery is 100% recycled. Gold is a long-lasting precious metal that does not rust or oxidise in normal use. When cared for properly, gold jewellery remains beautiful for a long time, and the material can be reused.
88% recycled bronze
The bronze used in Lumoava bronze jewellery contains an average of 88% recycled material. Our goal is to increase the share of recycled bronze towards the 100% level already used in our gold and silver jewellery. Because bronze naturally develops a patina over time, the jewellery is finished with a precious metal coating that protects the surface and evens out the tone.
Akoya pearls
Akoya pearls are high-quality saltwater pearls cultivated using traditional methods in Japan, on pearl farms surrounded by clean seawater. The cultivation of an Akoya pearl is a meticulous process, with typically only one pearl grown in each oyster. This makes every pearl unique.
Natural diamonds
We source natural diamonds from selected suppliers and require our supply chain to comply with the Kimberley Process as well as EU sanctions requirements. The Kimberley Process aims to prevent conflict diamonds from entering the market.
Laboratory-grown diamonds
A laboratory-grown diamond is a diamond grown under controlled conditions. We always state clearly in the product information when laboratory-grown diamonds are used in a piece of jewellery.
From 1 February 2026, laboratory-grown diamonds in our gold and diamond rings will also be identified by an LG hallmark.
Coatings
A coating is a thin layer of metal on the surface of a piece of jewellery. It finishes the tone of the jewellery and protects the base material in use. Rhodium plating gives a bright, cool silver tone, while gold plating adds a warm golden tone.
In Lumoava Studio jewellery, bronze is first plated with palladium, followed by either a rhodium or gold layer.
Jewellery components
The jewellery components we do not manufacture ourselves, such as clasps, earring posts, chains and other technical parts, are sourced from carefully selected Finnish and European partners. We require responsible practices, documentation of origin information and supply chain transparency from our suppliers.
Lumoava Huoltamo
Lumoava Huoltamo helps keep your jewellery beautiful in use. Through the service, you can have a broken clasp, snapped chain or worn surface repaired, and have the length of a Lumoava piece adjusted or the size of a Lumoava ring altered.
Social responsibility
Lumoava ei ole vain nimi – se on lupaus siitä, että kauneus voi näkyä ja tuntua monella tavalla. Meille se tarkoittaa myös vastuun kantamista ihmisistä ja ympäristöstä.

Over the years, we’ve taken part in these:
Participating in the New Children’s Hospital initiative
Proceeds from the Lumoava Hali collection and Lohdunkantaja jewelry helped support the New Children’s Hospital project in 2014–2015, with a total donation of €174,720
The Wings for Youth campaign
We have served as the official partner and jewelry supplier for the Finnish Olympic Team. For each piece from the Loisto collection, we donated €5 to the Wings for Youth campaign, which provides coaching support to upper secondary school students during school hours.
Lumoava Junior
In spring 2020, we held the Lumoava Junior jewelry design competition for schoolchildren. From more than 500 entries, five were chosen and produced as limited editions of 100 pieces each. The proceeds were donated to five charitable causes, supporting primary school programs, animal welfare, and dance activities.
Elämäntähti and Ronald McDonald
Through the Lumoava Elämäntähti jewelry collection, created in collaboration with Krista Siegfrids, we supported the Ronald McDonald Children’s House Foundation. A total of €31,900 was donated from the sales.
Commitment to responsibility through the years
The 1940s
-Silver and copper were hand-mixed – nothing went to waste.
-Brass cannon shells were straightened and transformed into spoons.
→ Out of what once seemed purposeless, something beautiful was born.
The 1950s
Our founder traded fur vests for silver spoons, and silver spoons for flour.
→ All so the employees could have coffee and pastries at the holiday party.
The 1970s
Brass scraps from the zipper factory were transformed into silver-plated vase bases
→ Recycling wasn’t just a trend – it was a mindset.
The 1980s
Finnish silver bases were fitted onto crystal vases from the Soviet Union and East Germany. → Giving the old a new shape and a new significance.
The 1990s
When the time for Dinosaurum jewelry had passed, it was melted and recast.
→ Giving the pieces a new life.
In the present day
All Lumoava gold and silver jewelry is crafted from 100% recycled materials.
In our Lumoava Studio collection, the primary material is bronze, which consists of approximately 88% recycled content.
→ Not out of obligation, but because it’s the way it’s always been done.
